A summer full of new ventures
The purpose of life, after all, is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experience. ~Eleanor Roosevelt
Here is a retrospect to what happened after our Swahili doodles workshop just in case you have been wondering what happened next and where I was heading!
Well, I was going home and despite the fact that it was almost 50 degrees centigrade it always feels good to be back in Oman and even better when the visit coincides with the holy month of Ramadan.
It is very important to take some time for yourself and to try your best to stay connected with the people who love and care about you. Whether it’s having breakfast with my childhood friends, cooking some food with my mother, cuddling with my childhood teddy monkey Boston or going to the sea side together with my brother, these activities that some might regard as ordinary bring so much happiness and lots of positive energy to a person who is constantly homesick throughout the rest of the year.
I then returned back to Bonn towards the end of Ramadan together with my mother’s home made Zuckerfest cookies , I spent a great breakfast together with the family of a German friend of mine and we later on celebrated my birthday at the best Sushi place in town. Sofia, thank you for making both Ramadan and my birthday memorable for me this year.
And in between, I was delighted to be invited to take part in the annual Bonn Women Science Slam 2017 under the theme: Women know what science is. The science slam that took place in the wonderful LVR Landesmuseum Bonn was organised by the Bonn women international clubs and gave the chance for seven female scientists to talk to the public about their research and guess what? The public with their applause decided to award me the second place for my talk about insects and food security.
Towards the end of August, a dear guest stopped by and spent some days together with me here between Cologne and Bonn and we took it even further and went on a road trip to Paris.
I was happy to reunite with my sweet mother and her visit gave me a boost to keep up and carry on with my work and the memories that we made together during this short holiday are going to last a life long for sure.
What next, INSECTA 2017, Tropentag 2017 and even more… Stay tuned to the comping blog posts.
Until then, enjoy the last few days of autumn before it gets freezing cold.
